Microsoft Names Pavan Davuluri as its New Windows and Surface Chief

According to reports, Indian-American a technology major, Microsoft named Pavan Davuluri as its new Windows and Surface chief, per an internal memo from a senior executive.

Davuluri, a graduate of IIT Madras, has been with Microsoft for 23 years and was a part of the company's collaboration with Qualcomm and AMD to develop custom Surface processors. He will report directly to Rajesh Jha, Microsoft's head of experiences and devices. A memo from Jha stated that Windows is again streamlining its Windows and devices team. This will allow us to build silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and server.

Panos Panay's departure from Microsoft to join Amazon led to the division of its Windows and Surface groups a year ago. Last year, Davuluri led the Surface silicon and gadgets sector, while Mikhail Parakhin handled Windows and web experiences.

An elite group of Indian Americans is headed by Davuluri. Sundar Pichai, also an IIT alumnus, is the leader of Alphabet, the parent company of Google. Microsoft itself has Satya Nadella as chief executive, who has headed the company since 2014. Nadella has been with the company since 2014.

Some of the other prominent Indian-origin CEOs of global tech are Ravi Kumar S of Cognizant, Arvind Krishna of IBM, Nikesh Arora of Palo Alto Networks, YouTube's Neal Mohan and Shantanu Narayen of Adobe .

Microsoft roped in Mustafa Suleyman, cofounder of Google's DeepMind and Inflection AI, to lead its consumer AI business last week. Cofounder Karen Simonyan was among the team members hired by the company.
