OpenAI to Launch its Inaugural Office in New Delhi

OpenAI is set to launch its inaugural office in New Delhi later this year, as announced on August 22, aiming to strengthen its footprint in one of its biggest markets.

OpenAI has announced the formal establishment of a presence in India and has begun recruiting a local team. This group will concentrate on enhancing connections with local collaborators, authorities, enterprises, builders, and educational organizations.

The amount of enthusiasm and potential for AI in India is remarkable. "India possesses all the elements needed to emerge as a global AI powerhouse—exceptional tech talent, an outstanding developer ecosystem, and robust government backing through the IndiaAI Mission," stated Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

"Establishing our initial office and creating a local team is a crucial initial move in our dedication to making advanced AI more reachable nationwide and to develop AI for India, alongside India," he stated.

India accounts for the largest share of ChatGPT’s student users, while weekly active users in the country have quadrupled over the past year

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Railways & Information Broadcasting, stated, "OpenAI’s choice to set up operations in India demonstrates the nation’s increasing leadership in digital innovation and AI implementation. Through significant investments in digital public infrastructure, AI expertise, and large-scale enterprise solutions, India is exceptionally poised to lead the upcoming wave of AI-driven transformation."

"Through the IndiaAI Mission, we are developing an ecosystem for reliable and inclusive AI, and we appreciate OpenAI's collaboration in promoting this vision to guarantee that the advantages of AI are accessible to all citizens," the union minister stated.
