The government is engaging with mobile phone manufacturers, IT companies, and other electronics producers regarding the upcoming version of the production-linked incentive scheme prior to obtaining Cabinet approval, stated Union Electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The minister stated that the new budget reforms, comprising the Rs 40,000-crore component scheme and a tax holiday for AI data centres, will significantly boost employment in the electronics, AI, and GCC sectors, exceeding the current total of over one crore jobs.

In response to inquiries regarding the mobile production linked incentive (PLI) scheme set to conclude in March and not specifically mentioned in the FY27 budget, the minister confirmed that the government is consistently engaging with manufacturers, and "as soon as things are finalized, we will present it to the cabinet for approval".
