
Reliance and Meta form Joint Venture to Enhance their AI Capabilities

In a significant advancement for India's digital ecosystem, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) revealed a strategic joint venture (JV) with technology behemoth Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta) to establish a new firm centered on artificial intelligence (AI).
The declaration was presented by RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani during the company's 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, August 29, 2025.
The new joint venture firm (JVCo) will operate as a 70/30 partnership, with Reliance possessing the larger share. The two firms have pledged an initial investment of around Rs. 855 crores ($100 million).
The main aim of the JVCo is to create, promote, and distribute enterprise AI services in India. Ambani highlighted that the collaboration will merge the capabilities of open-source AI with Reliance's extensive expertise in multiple sectors, such as energy, retail, telecommunications, media, and manufacturing.

The announcement supports Meta's plan to grow its footprint in India, its biggest market by users. Meta's leader Mark Zuckerberg stated that the collaboration will provide Indian companies with open-source AI models like Llama, enabling entrepreneurs and creators nationwide.
In a concurrent step to enhance its AI goals, the RIL board has also sanctioned the establishment of a new, entirely-owned subsidiary called 'Reliance Intelligence Limited'. This new enterprise has been designed with four distinct missions, which involve creating gigawatt-scale, AI-capable data centers fueled by renewable energy and promoting worldwide collaborations with prominent tech firms and open-source organizations.
Reliance Intelligence will provide user-friendly AI solutions for both consumers and businesses, while fostering a hub for top-tier researchers and engineers. Ambani mentioned that this new subsidiary intends to transform India into the world's leading AI-native digital economy.
