Siddaramaiah gives Push for AI in Karnataka Budget

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared that a tech hub named "Bangalore Robotics and AI Innovation Zone" will be established this year.

The facility will be established by the AI and Robotics Technology Park at IISC in partnership with ISRO and the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS), he mentioned.

The chief minister stated that this is aimed at enhancing the AI industry.

While presenting the Karnataka Budget 2026-27, he announced that a Centre of Excellence for AI will be established at IIIT Raichur with an investment of Rs 5 crore.

Highlighting that Karnataka is the inaugural state to implement the Global Capability Center (GCC) Policy, the CM remarked that due to the government’s forward-thinking policies, over 550 GCCs are presently functioning in the state.

"This policy aims to set up 500 new GCCs in the state by 2029, projected to provide jobs for 3.5 lakh individuals and yield an economic output of USD 50 billion." "A new IT park will be created in Mangalore to boost GCC by KEONICS," he mentioned.

The Chief Minister stated that over 30,000 employees are employed in 100 companies in Mysuru, thanks to the assistance provided to the IT sector.

This year, Rs 4 crore will be designated for creating an advanced surgical-assisted robot (COBOT) in partnership with IIIT-Bangalore and NIMHANS

To relieve traffic in Bengaluru and bolster economic activities outside the city, he mentioned that Mysuru will be established as the state's second IT city.

A drone testing facility will be set up in Chikkaballapur district to aid in drone testing and performance evaluation, he mentioned.

"This year, Rs 4 crore will be designated for creating an advanced surgical-assisted robot (COBOT) in partnership with IIIT-Bangalore and NIMHANS." He noted that this technology will enhance results in neurosurgical operations.

The Chief Minister announced that infrastructure will be upgraded at the Centre for Human Genetics at a total expenditure of Rs 20 crore to support the newly founded Institute of Advanced Genome Editing and Gene Therapy, along with additional biotechnology-oriented laboratories
