As part of Tamil Nadu’s push to attract more global capability centres (GCCs), Switzerland’s Chubb Group and Germany’s Nordex Group signed agreements with the state government . The companies will establish GCCs and research and development (R&D) facilities in Chennai.

Nordex ranks as one of the top five wind turbine producers globally. A pact was also concluded in the higher education field with the University of Western Australia (UWA), which is among Australia’s top research institutions.

It will set up its India campus in Chennai, covering about 50,000 square feet in Velachery, with an investment of Rs 125 crore, creating over 200 direct and indirect jobs. This will be the initial global university campus established in Tamil Nadu. Established in 1911, the university holds the 77th position in the QS World University Rankings 2026.

MotiveLink, a prominent South Korean auto-components producer, has entered into an MoU to establish a manufacturing plant at SIPCOT Pillaipakkam Industrial Park in Kancheepuram district, backed by an investment of Rs 300 crore. This is anticipated to generate 1,500 positions. Altogether, the investments are projected to generate 2,920 direct and indirect employment opportunities in the state.

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay stated that these investments would meet the ambitions of Tamil Nadu's youth and be crucial in positioning Tamil Nadu as a worldwide center for global capability centers, research and development, higher education, and advanced manufacturing.

He also confirmed that the Tamil Nadu government would keep providing all essential assistance to promote these companies' investments and guarantee that their operations thrived in the state.

Chubb from Switzerland and Nordex from Germany are establishing their global capability and R&D centres in Chennai, marking their debut in Tamil Nadu. Chubb's facility is anticipated to generate 220 jobs, whereas Nordex's facility is projected to produce 1,000 jobs.

Combined, these two investments will create 1,220 top-notch jobs. These investments will enhance Chennai's status as a vital global center for high-value capability centers and research initiatives.

Chubb Business Services India is presently the biggest engineering hub within Chubb's worldwide network, with teams located in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Bhubaneswar.

In comparison to other states, Tamil Nadu offers a significant advantage for GCCs due to its multi-city cluster strategy, which includes Chennai, housing more than 350 GCCs; Coimbatore, with over 80; and two emerging hubs in Madurai and Trichy.

A report from Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas indicates that the state could generate more than 1.5 million GCC positions by 2030. Chennai currently has GCCs from multiple major companies and is poised to introduce 12-13 million square feet of high-quality office space by 2026, accounting for more than 10 percent of India's total GCC footprint.
