Tata Power Bets Big on Home Automation

Tata Power is broadening its presence in the home automation sector, banking on the growing mainstream acceptance of Internet of Things (IoT)-driven products, according to reports.

The energy giant, which entered the retail home automation market last year, aims to reach one crore homes with IoT-enabled converters and additional products as part of an aggressive growth plan, stated Kaushik Sanyal, head of renewable and automation.

"We are expanding at approximately 60percent, but this device will lead to unparalleled growth. My goal is to bring this to one crore homes," Sanyal stated during the launch of the company's EZ Home Automation Solutions in Kolkata.

Tata Power is presently active in nine cities and intends to grow to 100 cities over the next three years, he stated.

Sanyal stated that the sector is set for remarkable expansion, fueled by growing desires among Indian families to automate their homes affordably, due to heightened awareness of safety, convenience, and efficient energy consumption.

The recently introduced IoT-enabled converter device facilitates the automation of three electrical appliances with one unit, managed via a mobile app.

With a price tag of approximately Rs 2,500, the device is marketed as a basic option for the general public, targeting families in distant areas.

"This product is a strong entry into mass retail aimed at every household," Sanyal mentioned, highlighting that the device operates even with limited or no internet access.

The business presently provides approximately 50 smart home devices, such as switches, panels, motion detectors, and outlets.

Although the majority of products come from China, Tata Power oversees the quality, he mentioned.

The firm stated that the solutions are appropriate for both new and existing residences and can be implemented without harming walls or requiring significant electrical changes.
