
Tencent Hires AI Researcher from OpenAI

Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. has successfully recruited a notable AI researcher from OpenAI in what represents one of the most significant talent transfers from America's AI industry to China, according to reports.
The gaming and messaging corporation based in Shenzhen brought on board Yao Shunyu to focus on incorporating artificial intelligence capabilities into its platform offerings, according to reports. Prior to his role at OpenAI in the United States, Yao's professional background includes positions at Google and Princeton University, as shown on his LinkedIn profile.
This year has seen intense competition among technology firms for artificial intelligence expertise, with organizations such as Meta Platforms Inc. allegedly providing signing bonuses worth $100 million in efforts to attract talent from competitors.
According to reports, Tencent presented Yao with potential compensation reaching 100 million yuan, though the specific requirements to achieve the maximum compensation amount were not disclosed.
