Virtusa, a company specializing in product and platform engineering services, announced its acquisition of SmartSoC Solutions, a semiconductor engineering and integrated circuit design services firm located in Bengaluru. The size of the agreement was not revealed.

The company based in Massachusetts stated that this strategic acquisition places it at the leading edge of AI and chip design innovation to satisfy the increasing demand for advanced silicon.

Virtusa stated that the combination of SmartSoC, along with its proficiency in silicon design, verification, and embedded systems engineering, enables it to take advantage of the need for sophisticated silicon.

Nitesh Banga, the chief executive officer of Virtusa says,"The purchase of SmartSoC is revolutionary for Virtusa. It swiftly positions us as a major contender in the rapidly expanding semiconductor engineering field, finalizing our vision for a comprehensive solution that can assist clients from the foundational silicon layer up to the customer application."

Banga noted that as AI models grow in complexity and data center investments increase worldwide, possessing in-house chip design skills will be essential.

The purchase also solidifies Virtusa’s semiconductor engineering presence in India and enhances its global delivery capabilities by incorporating SmartSoC’s engineering operations throughout Bengaluru, Hubli, and Hyderabad.

Moreover, the acquisition adds over 1,400 highly skilled engineers with expertise in VLSI, physical design, and embedded software.

The current leadership team at SmartSoc Solutions, headed by CEO Bharath Desareddy, will stay the same and will keep managing all delivery programs and client interactions. All existing project frameworks, contractual obligations, and service contracts will remain unchanged.
