Amazon Brings Alexa+ to India With Hindi Support

Amazon revealed that its Alexa+ conversational assistant is now accessible in India with support for Hindi. The updated assistant is capable of engaging in longer conversations and sustaining context throughout.

The feature is accessible to all customers in the country during Early Access in Hindi and English. Following the initial testing phase, the company plans to offer the assistant at no cost for Prime members. For customers who are not Prime, the monthly fee would be ₹2,000 ($20.85).

The company announced that the latest Alexa features a more expressive voice and is capable of managing intricate multi-step tasks, such as ordering groceries from Amazon’s quick commerce platform, Amazon Now, and controlling smart home devices. Users have the ability to alternate between English and Hindi within the same sentence.

Amazon mentioned that Alexa+ incorporates services based in India, including food delivery platform Swiggy, Zomato’s ticket booking service District, travel sites like TripAdvisor and MakeMyTrip, as well as the restaurant reservation app EazyDiner. The enhanced assistant is now connected with music streaming platforms like Amazon Music and JioSaavn.

In June, the company invited users to sign up for a testing program for Alexa+, allowing them to converse with the assistant in Hindi. Following that, the organization began trialing an English edition of Alexa+.

Amazon introduced Alexa in India in English in 2017 and incorporated Hindi support in 2019. The nation boasts over 600 million Hindi speakers, and Amazon is aiming to penetrate that market with its intelligent devices and innovative features.

The company did not provide specific figures, but stated that its smart home products have increased by 20% compared to the previous year.
