Amazon Now Expands with 100 Urban Fulfillment Centres
Amazon India is launching more than 100 Urban Fulfillment Centers (UFCs) as part of its quick commerce initiative Amazon Now, which will quadruple available options and introduce categories like electronics, jewellery, furniture, and luggage to its rapid delivery commitment, in preparation for Prime Day 2026.
The action introduces an additional level to Amazon Now’s current framework of more than 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers (MFCs) in 100 cities. UFCs are spacious venues that will first open in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, with the company suggesting a wider national expansion afterward.
“Urban fulfillment centers position inventory nearer to customers, facilitating quicker deliveries from the extensive range provided by our sellers,” stated Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations, Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye.
One UFC will support four to five micro regions at the same time. Singh characterized the architecture as a dual-layer network, where a UFC could also function as the local MFC for a compact community while acting as a broader zone node for adjacent regions. The existing construction aims for about one UFC for every four to five MFCs, a proportion Singh anticipates tightening as customer demand increases.

When inquired if the company will maintain its assertive approach towards its zero fees commitment, Singh was ambiguous, stating that pricing would be adjusted to "what’s appropriate for the moment,” refraining from making the existing low-fee stance a lasting promise
