Apple Supplier Jabil to Invest $250-$275 Million in India
According to reports, Apple supplier Jabil is looking to invest an additional $250-$275 million (Rs 2,102-Rs 2,312 crore) in India to build at least two more manufacturing units over the next three to four years as the US-based electronics component maker prepares to expand its operations in one of the world's fastest-growing markets for iPhones.
Currently, the company has two plants in Pune that manufacture WiFi, NFC (near-field communication technology), RFID (radio frequency identification technology), camera optics, and other power electronics. It is proposing to set up another plant in Tamil Nadu. The company plans further expansion to meet the growing demand for consumer electronics, home appliances, and e-mobility products.
Jabil currently has two operating units in the Ranjangaon Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation Zone in Pune, where it manufactures plastic casings for Apple's AirPods.
According to reports, they may start manufacturing plastic cases for chargers, some older iPhones, AirPods, and even Apple Watch and Mac components. There will be a mix of assembly and manufacturing divisions.
Jabil and Apple did not respond to ET's email inquiry. Jabil entered India in 2023 to produce plastic casings for Apple's AirPods at its Pune plant. In September this year, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to invest Rs. 2,000 crore to set up an electronics manufacturing facility in Tiruchirappalli.
