CCPA Releases Guidelines for Unauthorized Sale of Wireless Devices

Consumer rights regulatory authority (CCPA) released guidelines aimed at preventing the unauthorized sale of wireless devices, nearly three weeks after issuing notices to ecommerce firms for listing and selling walkie-talkies lacking regulatory compliance.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued ‘Guidelines for Preventing and Regulating Illegal Listings and Sales of Radio Equipment, including Walkie Talkies on E-Commerce Platforms, 2025,’ which require that only authorized walkie-talkies that operate on permitted frequencies be listed.
The regulations require complete transparency regarding frequency ranges and additional technical specifications, forbid deceptive advertising or product descriptions, and establish penalties and enforcement measures for infractions in compliance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
Ecommerce businesses must perform “due diligence” and confirm adherence to regulations, including necessary licensing when relevant. The listings that do not have frequency details or required certification must be removed.
"These guidelines have been notified to curb the unauthorised sale of wireless devices that may pose risks to consumer safety, mislead consumers regarding their legal position and interfere with critical communication networks, including those used by law enforcement and emergency services," says the Consumer Affairs Ministry.
The Ministry stated that ecommerce platforms are continuously being monitored and assessed.
Platforms that received notices included Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, OLX, TradeIndia, Facebook, Indiamart, VardaanMart, Jiomart, Krishnamart, Chimiya, Talk Pro Walie Talkie, and MaskMan toys
