AI powerhouse Anthropic has revealed its expansion into India, enabling local organizations to access its AI agent Claude via in-country inference.

"In the upcoming weeks, Claude will be accessible for in-country inference in India via Amazon Bedrock, the AWS platform designed for developing generative AI applications and agents at a production scale, ensuring that requests made through the India endpoint are handled on servers located in India," Anthropic stated.

The in-country inference provides Indian firms the assurance to cater to clients across various sectors, including banks, insurance companies, and public and governmental institutions.

"We are pleased to see partners such as Anthropic and AWS introducing in-country inference in India." "Having reliable, cutting-edge AI nearby is beneficial for the ecosystem as we collectively investigate how these technologies can safely meet customer needs," states Ashok Vaswani, Managing Director and CEO of Kotak Bank.

In-country inference is accompanied by the necessary supervision: Claude deployments via Amazon Bedrock include the audit trails and access controls that risk and compliance teams need before any deployment reaches production.

"Introducing Claude inference to India marks a significant milestone for enterprise AI in this nation," remarks Irina Ghose, Managing Director of Anthropic in India.

When Anthropic introduced the Claude Partner Network worldwide in March 2026, India recorded some of the highest registration figures globally, and an increasing number of Indian partners currently belong to the company's Global Premier, Preferred, and Select tiers

India's banks, insurance companies, telecoms, public sector, and government organizations manage the data of one billion individuals. When that information can remain in India, AI transitions from trials into the systems that are most significant.
