The Delhi Government suggested a number of initiatives for Kanwar Camps, including increased funding for the temporary tents set up along the roadside, which serve as resting places for the 'Kanwar' or pilgrims during their challenging spiritual journeys.

CM Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government plans to implement significant changes for the Kanwar Yatra-2026 to enhance organization, safety, and convenience for pilgrims, according to reports.

Due to the consistently growing number of pilgrims, inflation, and the rising expenses of operating Kanwar camps, the government has suggested a considerable increase in financial support.

The request to improve financial support for Kanwar Samitis or the organizations overseeing these camps, along with additional suggestions, will be presented to the Delhi Cabinet for approval during its meeting on Tuesday.

Annually, countless Kanwar or devotees trek along roads and highways to transport sacred water from the River Ganga in containers and take it back home to honor the Hindu deity Lord Shiva.

CM Gupta states, "The largest rise has been suggested for major Kanwar camps. Financial support for camps covering more than 20,000 square feet and running for 6 to 12 days will rise from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 15 lakh."

Furthermore, support for camps of the same scale running for 3 to 5 days will increase from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.

The announcement indicated that financial support will also be improved for additional groups within the camps.

CM Gupta stated that the extent of the Kanwar Yatra in Delhi has been growing consistently. The count of Kanwar camps rose from 170 in 2024 to 308 in 2025.

The announcement also mentioned that the Kanwar Samitis will keep getting free electricity of up to 1,200 units. BSES and TPDDL will guarantee prompt electricity connections and finish all necessary procedures before the Yatra starts.
