
Google's Expidition From Education To Small Businesses


On Monday, Google announced to establish a partnership with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) during the sixth edition of Google for India event.
In the event, the Senior Country Marketing Director of Southeast Asia and India Google, Sapna Chadha said, “Providing training to more than 1 million teachers from 22,000 different schools by the end of 2020 for delivering splendid education is what we look into.”
Google.org also declared that $1 million is granted for Kaivalya Education Foundation for Distance Learning Fund. The funding and the Central Square Foundation and the TeacherApp will allow training for 700,000 teachers in India on virtual education for students via TV and radio as some places might not have access to smartphones.
The funding is the part of the USD 10 billion fund that Google earlier announced for accelerating India’s digital economy.
Google’s Google for India Digitization Fund is now to be deployed in the next 5-7 years. It focuses on segments that are important to India’s digitization like availability of internet on local languages, making of new products and services for the consumer end, education and health, and agriculture.
The funding also empowers the small and medium-sized businesses for the digital transformation part and artificial intelligence for the societal betterment.
Related to this, Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google and Alphabet Inc said, “Making products for the Indian market has helped Google create products for
worldwide users. There is still a long way to go for India as more work needed to be done for making internet cost-friendly and useful among the entire Indian population.”
During the last few months, Google India got placed in some new features to help the issues of COVID-19 pandemic. More than 2 billion searches on COVID-19 from different linguistics were done on Google. Google helped small and medium-sized businesses to get better presence online as it made details about 11,000 food and night shelters available on Google Maps. Google has tied up with ICMR and MyGov for creating 700+ COVID-19 testing centers on the map for 300 cities.
Google India’s Country Head and Vice President said that they have recommitted themselves on extreme partnerships with India for supporting the nation to become an actual digital nation through internet availability to billions of Indians, thus giving prowess to India for making digital economy leader.
From India’s viewpoint, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Honourable Minister of Law and Justice, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. India, said that India is looking to transform the Indian lives through technology and he is delighted to witness Google invest heavily for the digital transformation.
He also expressed, for Google, there is a plethora of opportunity for testing artificial intelligence and approach for new initiatives in agriculture, weather reporting, healthcare during COVID-19 pandemic. The same is for digital education. Presently, the app economy in India is rising rapidly and powerfully and it is ever important to upload apps from India at the same rate we download. Google with the available fund will now be able to promote the startups on taking further steps.
On March, Google Pay Nearby Stores Spot was introduced, which helped offline merchants for discover purposes and till now is used by over two million users.
Google has implemented Job Spot on Google Pay. Job Spot allows remote work listings and remote job interviews as said by Caesar Sengupta, GM & VP of Payments and Next Billion Users of Google. He added, “We are inclined towards investing to help Indian businesses achieve digital success and educate Indian workforce to learn, grow and find better jobs.”
A new edutainment series on Doordarshan by Google is announced in collaboration with Prasar Bharti. This series will educate small and medium businesses to adopt digital tools for adapting to the present condition.
