IIT, AIIMS Delhi Ink MoU to Create AI-CoE in Healthcare

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create a Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AI-CoE) has been signed by IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi.

AIIMS Delhi Director Prof. M Srinivas and IIT Delhi Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee formalized the Memorandum of Understanding at a ceremony at IIT Delhi.

The AI-CoE seeks to create innovative AI-powered solutions to assist important national health initiatives.

IIT Delhi chief project manager Chetan Arora and AIIMS Delhi main project manager Krithika Rangarajan will co-lead the center.

Prof. Chetan Arora, Chief Project Manager for the AI-CoE, shares his enthusiasm: “The CoE will function as a key national and global research hub, leveraging indigenous AI solutions to transform public health. We aim to enhance healthcare delivery, skill development, and accessibility for underserved populations.”

He adds, “This initiative builds upon a legacy of collaboration between IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi. Through the AI-CoE, we hope to establish a new benchmark for integrating healthcare with AI research, not just in India but around the world.”

Following a stringent nationwide selection procedure, the Ministry of Education jointly awarded both institutes a Rs.330 crore grant under the "Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India" project. This ambitious program's primary execution body will be the new center.

Prof Srinivas emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “This MoU marks the beginning of transformative collaborative research with the potential to reshape healthcare across the country.”

The AI-CoE seeks to create innovative AI-powered solutions to assist important national health initiatives.

Echoing this vision, Prof. Rangan Banerjee remarked, “A partnership between AIIMS and IIT Delhi can drive innovation in affordable healthcare. We are proud to shape this national center of excellence and look forward to a measurable impact on Indian lives.”

Leading the initiative from AIIMS Delhi, Dr. Krithika Rangarajan, Chief Project Manager, said, “As we explore this dynamic intersection of healthcare and technology, our focus remains clear—placing patients at the center and building systems that benefit every citizen.”
