India to Host 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championships
The World Athletics Council has chosen Odisha in India and Astana in Kazakhstan to hold the World Athletics Indoor Championships in 2028 and 2030, respectively.
Reports indicate that the events were honored at the 240th World Athletics Council Meeting taking place in Torun, Poland, prior to the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26.
The decision to grant Hefei in China the 2028 World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships was also made during the two-day meeting on Wednesday and Thursday (18-19 March).
Greeting the Council in Torun before the World Indoor Championships, World Athletics President Sebastian Coe stated, Poland is a core region of global athletics and has a rich and notable tradition in athletics, generating Olympic champions and world record-holders in various disciplines throughout the last century.

Poland keeps producing top-tier athletes, many of whom will compete here in Torun during the extended weekend.

“I also want to congratulate Hefei for being awarded the World Race Walking Team Championships in 2028. They will be the most recent in a robust roster of Chinese cities to hold a World Athletics Series event from 2025 to 2028," Sebastian adds.

India will host the global track and field championships for the first time at the 2028 World Indoor Championships, taking place from 3-5 March 2028. Odisha, the eastern Indian state bordering the Bay of Bengal, hosted the Asian Championships in 2017 and has also been the venue for a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting.
