Karnataka dials Firstsource, Infosys for Covid-19 helpline

Bengaluru, India – 19 March, 2020: The government of Karnataka has requested Firstsource, an industry that process outsourcing program and back-office support of Infosys to assist create a call centre that can be helped to track individuals with suspected Covid-19 disease and make sure that quarantine policies are chased.

Infosys, back-office organisation will assist the efforts took forward by the state to contact the organisations in the technology sector to undertake the increase of the virus. Karnataka has confirmed 14 positive cases of Coronavirus, and one person has died so far. Many companies in Bengaluru have demanded the employees to work from home for few days until the scenario settles up.

“The government is looking at working with a few BPOs to do contact tracking and to ensure that people who are required to be quarantined are contacted,” a BPO executive with knowledge of the work told ET. “This is about a 150-200 people project.” The executive said Infosys and FirstSource were involved in the project.

“This is still very early. We will have a firm idea of what the government wants next week. So far, we are helping them, but it still isn’t fully up and running,” an Info executive said.

Karnataka health care department has already climbed to an interactive voice response system, which helps to call people with recently travelled an international trip and are home quarantined to keep a track on their status of health for 14 days of quarantine period.

People in the development process said “the two large Bengaluru-based companies will deploy staff without formally signing contracts to help the state deal with the situation. Infosys and Firstsource did not respond to requests seeking comment till press time.”

Infosys have also cleared the company because of the increase in number of disease spread in the state. "We have evacuated the IIPM building as a precautionary measure," a company official told on Saturday adding the place was being sanitised. “The Infosys management has requested its employees to stay calm as it was only to ensure that they were cautious and better prepared." he adds.

Firstsource Solution Limited is a business process outsourcing service organisation and is headquartered in Mumbai. The organisation focuses in assisting customers stay ahead of the curve during transformational solutions.
