The Karnataka government and Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer Wistron signed a memorandum of understanding on January 31 to establish a laptop manufacturing plant that may boost job generation.

The minister of large and medium industries says that the Taiwan-based company would invest Rs 1,500 crore and create around 3,000 job opportunities under the MoU.

The minister explained that the company has requested 32 acres of land for the proposed project, and the government is contemplating providing the required land in the Bengaluru region.

The global leader in technology services and goods plans to begin construction on the plant in July 2024 and hopes to start producing laptops by January 2026, according to Patil.

This would be the first unit of its kind to produce laptops in the state, according to Patil.

A fully automated facility and Industry 4.0 standards will make laptops for all brands, with over half of them destined for export. The plant will also produce IoT components and EV-related parts.

Patil says the move isn't just about electronics; it's about encouraging creativity, creating employment opportunities, and positioning Karnataka as a pioneer in the electronics manufacturing sector

The minister for large and medium industries and infrastructure development said that the company had been granted approval for a Rs 8,000 crore investment in the state. Foxconn's proposal to invest an additional 13,911 crore was approved by the SHLCC.

In the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) industrial area at Doddaballapur, a manufacturing facility is planned. The land was acquired by Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn) in May 2023, costing Rs 300 crore.

Patil says the move isn't just about electronics; it's about encouraging creativity, creating employment opportunities, and positioning Karnataka as a pioneer in the electronics manufacturing sector.
