Larsen & Toubro Partners with Indian Army
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has received a supply contract from the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of the Indian Army for the refurbishment, enhancement, and obsolescence management of the domestic Pinaka Multi-Rocket Launcher Systems.
This distinctive collaboration involving a local private OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and the Indian Army, aimed at maintaining frontline artillery systems, represents an important advancement for product lifecycle support of Made-in-India, operational artillery systems.
The collaboration with the Corps of EME of the Indian Army seeks to improve the long-term operational readiness and modernization of Pinaka regiments presently serving in the Indian Army. The initiative will emphasize handling obsolete parts, enhancing essential sub-systems, and delivering ongoing technical assistance to the Army Base Workshops. This partnership will further strengthen the Public Private Partnership model in defense maintenance and lifecycle support for frontline artillery systems.

In the first phase, L&T will collaboratively perform a pilot refurbishment of the Pinaka Launcher and Battery Command Post with 510 ABW. After the pilot phase is successfully completed, the remaining systems will be refurbished by 510 ABW of the Corps of EME, while L&T will maintain its role in supplying essential spares, offering technical support, and ensuring quality control.

This framework is anticipated to act as a template for comparable lifecycle management and enhancement initiatives throughout other defense platforms, reinforcing India's self-sufficient and future-oriented defense infrastructure. The strategy is in harmony with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, utilizing local design, production, and systems integration skills.
