Facebook parent, Meta, delays office reopening and is mandating COVID-19 booster shots for employees returning for the same, as it joins the growing list of companies revamping reopening plans due to omicron’s surge.

Employees opting work from office, the reopening date has been delayed to March 28 from the earlier plan of Jan. 31, the tech giant says.

Workers returning to office will have to present proof of their booster jabs, while the company closely monitors the Omicron variant situation. Meta mandates all its U.S. employees coming to office to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Employees have been given time until March 14 to decide whether to return to the office, request to work remotely full time or request to work from home temporarily.

Moreover the talk on street is that employees who are not vaccinated for medical or religious reasons can request for remote work. Employees who take no action can face disciplinary measures, including termination.

Corporate America has creased down on vaccination mandates and delayed back-to-office plans as the Omicron variant drives up infections to record levels across the country.

Last week, Citigroup said that, U.S. staffs who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 by Jan. 14 will be placed on unpaid leave and fired at the end of the month.

Last month, Meta, Instagram and WhatsApp offered an option to defer returning to office.

Last year, Meta’s chief, Mark Zuckerberg said that he expects the shift to remote work to be a lasting one at the leading social network, which plans to look for employees able to do their jobs from wherever they happen to live. The leading network also said it is on track to have most of its US campuses with 50 percent capacity by September.
