Meta Inks $10 Billion-plus Cloud Deal with Google

Reports indicate that Meta has formed a cloud computing agreement with Google valued at over $10 billion spanning six years.

According to reports, the information regarding the agreement entails Meta utilizing Google datacenter servers, storage, networking, and additional services.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has initiated a significant investment in artificial intelligence, attracting leading researchers from competitors such as OpenAI and Apple with lucrative compensation as he assembles a group to seek what he terms AI superintelligence.

"I'm thrilled to develop personal superintelligence for all people globally," Zuckerberg stated during an earnings call at the end of last month.

Meta is engaged in a fierce competition with other tech giants as they heavily invest in AI.

The agreement with Meta ranks as one of the largest in the 17-year history of Google's cloud division, as per reports.

Alphabet, Google's parent company, stated in a recent earnings report that its cloud computing division was projected to generate $50 billion in revenue this year.

In a post detailing Meta's AI strategy, Zuckerberg indicated that the rest of the decade would be a pivotal time for artificial intelligence advancement and emphasized that the company's focus was on delivering AI to its users

Meta additionally disclosed strong financial outcomes for the second quarter and notably raised its capital expenditures to $17 billion for the quarter, mainly for investments in AI infrastructure.

Meta estimated total capital expenditures for 2025 to be between $66 billion and $72 billion.

A solid quarter "won't protect Meta from inquiries about its future as it eagerly strives to stay competitive in the AI race," stated Emarketer analyst Minda Smiley regarding the quarterly earnings.
