Ministry of Earth Sciences launches Mobile App Mausam for India Meteorological Department on its Foundation Day Celebrations

By taking various initiatives in the last few years to improve weather forecast and warning services through the latest tools and technologies, India Meteorological Department, Ministry of Earth Sciences now amplifying the initiative and is proud to launch the mobile application ‘Mausam’ for India Meteorological Department.

Users can find this application on Playstore and Appstore.

The mobile application is for the general public and is designed to relay the weather information and forecasts in a simple fashion without using any technical terms.

Users are having access to observed weather, forecasts, radar images and will receive warning against impending weather events.

The following services are included in the MAUSAM

mobile application -

Current Weather – Through this users can know current temperature, humidity, wind speed, and direction for 200 cities. This service is updated 8 times per day and information about sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset are also provided.


Nowcast – Warning on localized weather phenomena every three hour is given and the intensity of weather is issued for almost 800 stations and districts of India by the State Meteorological Centres of IMD. Users can know about the severe weather conditions and probable impacts warnings are given.

City Forecast – This is a past 24 hours and 7-day service giving a forecast of weather conditions for 450 cities in India.

Warnings – Warning alerts are raised two times a day for all districts for the next five days in color codes – Red, Orange, and Yellow. This warns the citizens of approaching dangerous weather. The Red color code is the most severe category stating to the authorities for taking action, Orange code states authorities and the public to stay alert and Yellow code obliges public and authorities to stay updated.

Radar Products– Every 10 minutes, latest station wise radar is updated.

The Mausam application will now be an important measuring tool for the dissemination of weather information and warning. This will be accurate and user friendly and will be helpful for the general public.

ICRISAT’s Digital Agriculture and Youth (DAY) team, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, and India Meteorological Department jointly designed and developed this application.
