Motherson Obtains PLI Scheme Incentives for Electronics Manufacturing

Samvardhana Motherson International Limited has disclosed that its subsidiary, Motherson Electronic Components Private Limited (MECPL), has received approval as a beneficiary under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme of the Government of India via the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).

The authorization, issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), includes the manufacturing of casings for the consumer electronics sector. MECPL is set to obtain incentives over a period of six financial years, from FY 2026 to FY 2031.

The firm intends to allocate a total of Rs 1,900 crores throughout the investment phase at its production site in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. This growth is anticipated to create more than 5,000 job openings at the facility.

Motherson functions as a worldwide expert in design, engineering, manufacturing, and assembly, catering to clients through 425 locations in 44 nations. Although mainly recognized for its role in the automotive industry, the company has expanded into sectors like consumer electronics, health and medical, aerospace, logistics, and industrial IT solutions.

The ECMS approval represents an important advancement in Motherson's plan to enhance local manufacturing abilities in the consumer electronics sector. The firm is presently the largest auto parts manufacturer in India and is positioned among the top 15 automotive suppliers in the world.

The PLI program seeks to enhance local manufacturing and decrease reliance on imports by offering financial incentives to firms that achieve designated production and investment goals.
