Nasscom Appoints Srikanth Velamakann as new Chairman

The IT industry association Nasscom announced that it has chosen Srikanth Velamakanni, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive of Fractal, to be its new Chairperson, following Sindhu Gangadharan, Managing Director of SAP Labs India, who finishes her notable term as Chairperson in April.

In addition to this, the Nasscom Executive Council has chosen Kishor Patil, Co-Founder, CEO, and Managing Director of KPIT, to be the new Vice Chairperson.

Velamakanni takes on the position following over six years as the Vice-Chairperson of Nasscom and as a member of the Executive Council. As a co-founder of one of the earliest and most notable AI-first companies in India, he offers extensive knowledge in enterprise AI, analytics, responsible technology, and global market strategies to the position, during a crucial time for the sector.

Collaborating directly with Rajesh Nambiar, President of Nasscom, and the Executive Council, he will guide the industry's agenda across a series of linked priorities that indicate the direction of the global technology landscape, the industry organization stated.

“Advancements in AI are opening extraordinary possibilities for companies, both big and small, to rethink their operations.” India will have a crucial role in this transformation driven by AI. “In the upcoming year, our aim is to propel the next wave of AI-driven growth through products and services while equipping our workforce to lead with AI,” stated Velamakanni.

Nasscom aims to enhance service transformation through AI while promoting product innovation and Agentic AI, positioning India as a key provider of autonomous multi-agent systems and vertical AI products for international markets.

Equally important will be enhancing IP-driven DeepTech innovation in AI infrastructure, semiconductors, Frontier, and advanced engineering; expanding talent and training programs to equip the workforce for new Human + AI roles; and integrating Responsible AI and governance through industry-driven standards that establish India as a reliable center for responsible AI, Nasscom stated.

A notably successful thought leader, Velamakanni has been a leading advocate for India’s AI initiatives and a vigorous supporter of the necessity for independent AI technologies. He has actively engaged in advisory roles for the government concerning AI policy and national security.

An IIT-Delhi and IIM-Ahmedabad graduate, he has received extensive recognition for his contributions to entrepreneurship. Besides his leadership roles at Nasscom and Fractal, he is also a founder and trustee of Plaksha University in Punjab.
