PhonePe Invest Targets Everyday Savers to Expand Equity Participation
PhonePe, a leader in digital payments and fintech, aims to draw millions of Indians who invest in gold, fixed deposits, and mutual funds into the equity market, with its revamped 'PhonePe Invest' platform acting as a "bridge" for novice investors, says Founder & CPTO Rahul Chari.
PhonePe renamed its investing and trading platform Share.Market to PhonePe Invest, integrating it into its larger financial ecosystem. The platform integrates stocks, IPOs, mutual funds, and F&O products with a newly introduced Portfolio Optimiser, a unique tool designed to assist users in constructing, evaluating, and enhancing their portfolios.
Chari, PhonePe's Founder and Chief Product and Technology Officer, says that the rebranding signifies a wider transition in the company’s strategy, moving from focusing solely on active investors and traders to also catering to those starting to save via smaller, regular investments who might now wish to engage in the equity market.
"When we launched Share.Market, it was specifically intended for active investors and traders," Chari stated, noting that this group was a small portion compared to PhonePe's larger user audience.
The company has noted engagement in financial savings products outside of metropolitan and Tier 1 cities, such as gold, fixed deposits, and mutual funds. Chari linked this to the capacity to invest limited sums, referring to it as the "sachet model" of financial services that has aided in attracting more individuals and expanding involvement.
