Quantinuum and Oracle Partner on Quantum Computing
Quantinuum, a top-tier quantum computing firm, and Oracle have today revealed a long-term strategic alliance to integrate quantum computing into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Through the collaboration, OCI clients will gain direct access to Quantinuum’s Helios, the world's most precise commercial quantum computer, via OCI’s quantum service, in addition to OCI’s HPC and GPU infrastructure.
Quantinuum and Oracle aim to investigate how hybrid quantum-AI infrastructure might tackle many of the most demanding computational challenges enterprises encounter while expanding access for universities and research institutions that promote scientific discovery and education.
The collaboration demonstrates a common belief that the future of business computing will be founded on the merging of AI, traditional supercomputing, and quantum computing. Numerous intricate issues in materials discovery, drug development, logistics, energy, and financial modeling already test the boundaries of current computing architectures.

Quantum computing offers a fundamentally different approach to computation with the potential to address problems that are impractical for traditional systems alone. In addition, quantum computing uses significantly less energy than supercomputers.
A single Helios system has an estimated power draw of less than one percent of the draw reported for leading supercomputers, offering a lower power complementary resource for suitable hybrid workloads.

By bringing Quantinuum’s Helios to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, we want to give developers a practical and secure way to explore how quantum computing could complement their existing AI and HPC workloads on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure while improving compute efficiency and energy use.”

The trapped-ion system with 98 physical qubits has been utilized in demonstrations featuring 48 logical qubits and achieves an average fidelity of 99.921% for two-qubit gates, surpassing the often-referenced “three 9s” benchmark. Helios is intended for hybrid integration with traditional HPC and AI settings.
Operating on-premises within OCI's infrastructure, Helios is expected to integrate effortlessly with current OCI compute, networking, storage, identity, and data services while utilizing the same governance and access controls that customers currently employ.

Oracle intends to showcase its OCI quantum service in the near future, providing developers with an efficient method to transition from simulation to actual execution on authentic quantum computing hardware.

The upcoming OCI quantum service is anticipated to integrate Quantinuum’s development framework with backing for open-source hybrid programming tools, enabling developers to construct, evaluate, and enhance quantum-classical applications more effectively.
