Ambri Inc., an energy storage company housed at Massachusetts, USA will be showered with $ 144 million by Reliance New Energy Solar Ltd (RNESL) a subsidiary under Reliance Industries Ltd., (RIL) including strategic investors namely Paulson and Co.Inc. Also, Bill Gates and a few other investors are also investing into this energy storage firm.

RNESL will invest USD 50 million in Ambri to purchase 42.3 million shares of preferred stock, according to the company.

Ambri plans to produce calcium and antimony electrode-based cells and containerized systems that are less expensive than lithium-ion batteries. This is to make sure that operations are carried out safely in any climate without extra air cooling, and are expected to survive for more than 20 years with minimum deterioration.

Ambri systems are known to be well-suited for high-usage applications, such as transferring energy from solar generation during the day to peak load times in the evening and morning.
In the meantime, the company is already procuring customers for large-scale projects that are set to commence commercial operations in 2023 and beyond.

RIL believes that Ambri can handle projects requiring energy storage systems ranging from 10 MWh to over two GWh.

As RIL says, the investment is expected to assist the company develop and build its long-duration energy storage solutions business around the world.

On another page, it’s heard that RNESL and Ambri are also in talks to form an exclusive partnership to build a large-scale battery manufacturing plant in India, which would help Reliance's green energy project gain scale and save prices.

Then there’s this word about Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, announcing plans to form a Giga Factory in Jamnagar for the storage of intermittent energy as part of the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex project this year.

We're looking into new and sophisticated electro-chemical technologies that could be employed in large-scale grid batteries to store the energy we produce. Through a combination of generation, storage, and grid connectivity, we will cooperate with global pioneers in battery technology to achieve the best reliability for round-the-clock power availability," Ambani said.

Ambri's long-duration energy storage devices, which are based on patented technology and designed to last between four to 24 hours, will break through the cost, longevity, and safety limitations associated with lithium-ion batteries used in grid-scale stationary storage applications.

They are believed to provide for a critical energy storage option capable of supporting the growing amount of renewable energy being incorporated into electric power networks.

RIL believes that Ambri can handle projects requiring energy storage systems ranging from 10 MWh to over two GWh.
