Tamil Nadu Inks Rs.18,600 Crore MoU with Larsen & Toubro

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister V Joseph Vijay observed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Tamil Nadu government and Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for three significant projects in the state with a total investment of Rs 18,600 crore, generating job opportunities for approximately 8,200 individuals.

As per a press release, the Chief Minister conversed at the Secretariat with L&T Chairman and Managing Director SN Subrahmanyan and acknowledged the firm's ongoing investments in Tamil Nadu and its role in the state's industrial development.

The Chief Minister praised L&T's plan to set up projects in the data centre, electronics manufacturing, and shipbuilding sectors, indicating that the investments would enhance Tamil Nadu's status as a top industrial hub. He also guaranteed the company that the state government would fully cooperate and support its upcoming expansion plans.

The press release states that the MoU includes three main projects. The biggest of these is a Data Centre Expansion Project in Kancheepuram district, which will entail an investment of Rs 15,000 crore and is anticipated to create jobs for 500 individuals.

The Kattupalli expansion initiative aims to establish top-tier infrastructure for the offshore wind energy construction sector, simultaneously generating significant direct and indirect job opportunities for the youth of the state

L&T is set to develop an Electronics and Electronic Systems Manufacturing Project in Coimbatore, investing Rs 2,500 crore and generating job opportunities for approximately 2,000 individuals.

The third project includes the growth of L&T's shipbuilding plant at Kattupalli in the Tiruvallur district. The initiative will involve a funding of Rs 1,100 crore and is anticipated to generate jobs for around 5,700 individuals.

The initiatives correspond with the Tamil Nadu government's goal of turning the state into a US$1.5 trillion economy by 2036, as stated in the release. The funding is anticipated to bolster the state's varied industrial framework, boost digital infrastructure and AI-related applications, and improve the electronics manufacturing industry.
