Tata Communications Sees Demand For IoT Solutions Rise As Factories Resume Operations

Tata Communications is witnessing huge demand for the connected workplace solutions with more factories restarting operations.
As said by the Head – IoT (Business Unit), Tata Communications, Alok Bardiya, - The first interest has been from the manufacturing sector, since work-from-home is not an option for many and the collaborated companies require to restart operations as soon as possible.
He also said that the company expects demand to rise from the services sector in the coming days.
He said, “In the last two months, an increased interest in the connected worker solutions is witnessed. With a fair amount of understanding on connected worker solutions previously, I can say the crisis has definitely accentuated the awareness of the solution and worker safety requirement.”
As per to Bardiya, demand for the company’s IoT business was there pre-COVID-19 outbreak, however, the crisis has now increased the implementation and deployment. “In the last year, there was a groundwork and the capabilities to cater to the enterprises that were searching for 100 to 200 devices. Now, it is looking beyond thousands of devices for transforming their business. The growth in demand comes as enterprises understand how IoT will be impacting their overall supply chain.”
Bardiya stated that he supposes IoT-based solution demands will increase exponentially, with 10-15 million people in mid and large size enterprises predicted to benefit from the connected solutions. It is also on the way to realize claim for enabling IoT for facility and vehicle tracking to enable remote monitoring and control.
IoT-based solutions offer end-to-end solutions from sensors, networks, cloud, and analytics, and the main offering is connected worker solution. These solutions are already there which include a safety watch and a safepass card allowing alerts among the employees and the supervisor. Like for example, when the employees' number in a specific space goes beyond the permitted numbers, it starts triggering alerts.
