Tata Motors has expressed interest in developing new green technology projects in Jharkhand, including the production of electric and vehicles driven by hydrogen engines.

Hemant Soren, the chief minister of Jharkhand, and senior officials attended a meeting with senior representatives from Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and Tata Cummins to discuss the potential for investment in the expansion of a new green technology project at Jamshedpur.

Tata Motors and Cummins Inc. teamed up to offer solutions for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles in November of last year.

According to the agreement, the two parties would work together to design and develop low- and zero-emission propulsion technology options for commercial vehicles in India, such as fuel cells, internal combustion engines, and battery-powered electric vehicle systems.

Since 1993, Cummins and Tata Motors have collaborated to provide Cummins mid-range B series diesel engines for Tata automobiles.

"Tata Motors officials told the chief minister that there are immense possibilities of investment on expansion of the New Green Technology Manufacturing Project (Hydrogen Technology Engine based vehicle manufacturing) in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Tata Motors and Tata Cummins are preparing to make electric vehicles as well as hydrogen engine powered vehicles," the state government said.

In the next 25 to 30 years, it added, Tata Motors wants to eliminate all carbon emissions from the automotive industry.

"Tata Motors wants to set up a hydrogen segment in Jamshedpur. The officers told the chief minister that with the cooperation of the state government, the Green Hydrogen Mission can be achieved. Tata Motors is working on new technology for vehicles these days. Along with electric vehicles, Tata Motors is now focusing on manufacturing hydrogen engine-powered vehicles," added the state government.

Soren pledged the state government's full support and emphasized that the current global warming is a problem for the entire world.

Along with Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh, attendees were Managing Director of Cummins India Ashwath Ram and Executive Director of Tata Motors Girish Wagh.

A leading provider of hydrogen technologies and power solutions worldwide is Cummins Inc. Cummins' fourth-generation hydrogen fuel cell engine is a part of the company's zero-emission product line.
