Tata Steel to Invest Rs. 10,000 Crore in Jharkhand
Tata Steel has announced a Rs 10,000 crore investment in Jharkhand, reinforcing its commitment to expanding steel production while accelerating its transition to low-carbon manufacturing.
The investment, expected to be implemented by 2028, is projected to create around 2,000 employment opportunities in the state.
A major share of the investment—approximately Rs 7,000 crore—will be directed towards the company's HIsarna and Easy Melting Technology project. Additional funds will support the expansion of Tata Steel's Tinplate Division and Combi Mill, strengthening its manufacturing capabilities in Jamshedpur.
The HIsarna project represents one of Tata Steel's most significant sustainability initiatives. The technology is designed to reduce carbon emissions while lowering dependence on imported coking coal, making steel production more efficient and environmentally friendly.
The company plans to establish a one-million-tonne HIsarna pilot plant at its Jamshedpur facility, where the hot metal produced will be integrated into existing steelmaking operations.

HIsarna technology has already been successfully tested at Tata Steel's operations in the Netherlands.
According to the company, the process can reduce carbon emissions by around 20% compared to conventional blast furnace steelmaking, marking an important step toward greener steel production.
The latest investment underscores the company's focus on combining capacity growth with cleaner technologies to meet rising demand while advancing its sustainability goals

Looking further ahead, Tata Steel is targeting a global steelmaking capacity of more than 50 MTPA, with India expected to remain the primary driver of its future expansion.
