Verizon Communications Inc. reported that it lost more wireless subscribers than anticipated in the first quarter, owing to fierce competition from T-Mobile US Inc (TMUS.O) and AT&T Inc (T.N) in the bargain of attracting customers.

According to the Institutional Brokers’ Estimate System (IBES) data from Refinitiv, total operating revenue increased by around four percent to $32.9 billion, compared to analysts' estimates of $32.46 billion.

AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile won $78 billion in bids in the government's auction of C-Band spectrum in February, which is regarded as the most likely short-term source of available spectrum for next-generation 5G networks.

As per the detail provided by a wireless carrier, Verizon raised about $ 12 billion in the fourth quarter and over $ 31 billion in March this year, to finance the purchase.

5G Edge moves the data and processing done by applications and services closer to the end user at the edge of the network. This shortens the roundtrip that data needs to travel, reducing lag time, or latency, and helps critical, performance-impacting applications respond more quickly and efficiently. AWS Wavelength brings AWS compute and storage services to the edge of Verizon’s network, allowing innovators to develop applications with increased speeds, massive bandwidth and ultra-low latency.

Many innovators are already testing their solutions at the edge of Verizon’s 5G network with AWS Wavelength including HARMAN and Inception XR.

In the first quarter, Verizon lost 178,000 wireless phone subscribers, more than the 121,700 subscribers predicted by FactSet.

Last year, Verizon and AWS launched Verizon 5G Edge with AWS Wavelength in Boston and the San Francisco Bay Area and have since expanded to 10 cities including Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, New York and Washington, DC.

At the network's edge, the 5G Edge brings input and analysis performed by applications and utilities closer to the end user. This reduces the roundtrip time for data, lowering latency and allowing critical, performance-critical applications to respond more quickly and efficiently.
