Xiaomi India Warns Customers of Counterfeit Products

Xiaomi India, one of the leading electronics brands based out of China, warns its customers about counterfeit goods, as Mi products worth an estimated of Rs.33.3 lakh were seized from four suppliers in Chennai and three suppliers in Bangalore. The shops that were selling counterfeit Mi products were caught by Xiaomi's anti-counterfeit team which is a task force created by the company to constantly monitor the market for counterfeits.

During the Chennai and Bangalore raids, police officers along with the company’s representatives seized more than 3,000 products including mobile cases, headphones, power banks, chargers, and earphones with fake Mi branding. As per the company, the fake products in Chennai and Bangalore were worth of Rs.24.9 lakhs and Rs.8.4 lakhs respectively.

Previously, in November 2019, counterfeit Xiaomi smartphones and accessories worth ₹13 lakh were captured by police from four suppliers in Delhi's Karol Bagh.

Even though recognizing counterfeit products from the original ones are never easy, especially for the first-time buyers and buyers with less brand awareness. There are measures that can help with the issue.

For instance, it’s not only that you can verify the logo or QR code on the boxing, but also most of the Mi products come with a unique IMEI or S/N code. Buyers can find the code sticker on the back of device, or packaging box. All you have to do is go to Mi’s product verification portal and enter the code to verify the product authenticity.
