Highlights from MWC 2022

Oppo debuted its new Air Glass wearables, while Nokia unveiled new C-series handsets. The X70 5G modem is Qualcomm's successor to the X65 5G modem. Lenovo unveiled the ThinkPad X13s, Oppo unveiled its 240W SuperVOOC flash charge technology, and OnePlus and Realme said that 150W charging will be available in the near future on select phones. At the Mobile World Conference 2022 event in Barcelona, companies such as Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Qualcomm, and others made a slew of new announcements. Here are the highlights from each company’s announcements at this year’s MWC.

HMD Global Launched Nokia C-Series Smartphones
HMD Global unveiled the Nokia C2 2nd Edition, C21, and C21 Plus handsets, the company's latest affordable models. The Nokia C2 2nd Edition has a 5.7-inch FWVGA display and a 5MP single rear camera. It costs EUR 79 (about Rs 6700). The smartphone will be available in April and is powered by a quad-core MediaTek processor with 1GB and 2GB RAM choices. The Nokia C21 has a 6.5-inch HD display and costs EUR 99 (about Rs 8,400). The phone is equipped with an octa-core Unisoc SC9863A processor and is available with 2GB or 3GB of RAM. It also boasts a single-camera configuration on the back with an 8MP lens, as well as AI face unlock and fingerprint scanning. In March, Nokia C21 will be available for purchase.

OnePlus Announced 150W SuperVOOC Fast-Charging Standard
Following Oppo's announcement of a new 150W SuperVOOC fast-charging standard, its premium sub-brand, OnePlus announced that the technology will be available in the second quarter of this year on an unidentified smartphone. OnePlus hasn't said if the phone will be a flagship or a member of the Nord series of mid-range phones. At MWC, Realme will also unveil a 150W UltraDart technology. BBK Electronics is the parent company of Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme.

OPPO Introduced a New 150W SuperVooc
At the ongoing MWC in Barcelona, Spain, Oppo unveiled its new 150W SuperVooc with Battery Health Engine (BHE) and 240W SuperVooc quick charge technologies. The new 150W charging system will be able to charge a 4500mAh rechargeable battery pack from empty to full in 15 minutes. According to Oppo, charging to 50 percent will take only five minutes. Meanwhile, the 240W SuperVooc flash charge technology is capable of charging a 4,500mAh battery to 100 percent in under nine minutes.

Qualcomm Showed a Slew of New Technologies
Qualcomm unveiled a slew of new innovations. Qualcomm also stated that it will use Snapdragon Connect branding to make it easier for customers to choose smartphones with the best connectivity. Snapdragon Connect devices will have the finest 5G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connection that Qualcomm has to offer. Meanwhile, the new Snapdragon X70 5G modem-RF system uses an AI processor to optimise your phone's 5G connection.

Realme Launched GT 2 Pro and GT Smartphones
Realme has unveiled its GT 2 Pro and GT smartphones, its most high-end devices to date. The GT 2 Pro is aiming at the $ 800 pricing range, albeit it starts at around Eur 649, putting it around the $ 730 mark. It has two 50MP cameras on the back, as well as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and a 150-degree wide-angle camera. The Snapdragon 888 processor is used in the standard GT 2.

Lenovo Showed Off a Series of Laptops
Lenovo introduced notebooks in the ThinkPad and IdeaPad lines. The premium Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor powers the new ThinkPad X13, housed in an ultra-slim, fan-less design delivers next-level silence. The business touts a multi-day battery life of up to 28 hours, an upgraded 5G connection, and a 5MP webcam with auto-framing and clever noise suppression for conference calls, all while weighing only 1.06kgs. Touch control and Eyesafe reduced blue light choices are available on the 13.6-inch display.

Lenovo also introduced the ThinkPad Extreme X1 Gen 5, a powerful gaming laptop featuring the newest Core i9 processor and 64GBs of RAM. The ThinkVision M14d is a 14-inch USB-C monitor with an attractive one-cable solution that connects to any system with less power. The new Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 2-in-1 series is a flexible notebook that may be used as a tent, tablet, or laptop. The Flex 5i has a 12th Generation Intel Core i7 processor, whereas the Flex 5 has an AMD Ryzen 7 processor.

TCL Showcased Interesting Prototype Gadgets
TCL showcased rather intriguing prototype gadgets. Its roll and fold concept is a folding phone that appears similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but can stretch out further and have more screen real estate when unfolded. Another proposal features a 360-degree shape that unfolds flat. The Chinese manufacturer, best known for its televisions, has been experimenting with foldable phones but has yet to release one.

Samsung Presented Galaxy Book2 Business
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Book2 Business. This is a new PC based on Intel's vPro processing platform, which is aimed for enterprises. The laptops come with capabilities to help keep them secure for enterprise users, which is especially important in a hybrid environment where some workers may work from home and on non-corporate networks. These, according to Samsung, have defense-grade security technologies, Intel Hardware Shield Technology, and a secure embedded CPU to protect the BIOS.

According to the company, the laptops are constructed on Intel vPro processors with Intel Hardware Shield, which defends against hardware and OS threats and minimizes the likelihood of malware accessing the OS.
