In her memo, Galetti framed the layoffs as strongly shaped by the company's strategic shift towards Artificial Intelligence, asserting that it is a continuation of CEO Andy Jassy’s persistent effort to function like the world’s biggest startup.

She mentioned that the company is minimizing bureaucracy, eliminating layers, and reallocating resources to focus on its largest investments.

Galetti’s note states that Amazon will provide transition assistance, which includes severance pay, outplacement services, health insurance benefits, and additional support

The memo specifically tackled the issue of eliminating positions despite the company's strong performance, noting, this generation of AI represents the most revolutionary technology we’ve encountered since the Internet, and it’s allowing businesses to innovate at a much quicker pace. We believe it’s essential to operate in a more streamlined manner.

This reflects an earlier memo from Jassy in June 2025, where he cautioned that as the company experiences efficiency gains from using AI, it would probably decrease our total corporate workforce in the coming years. The company detailed a support package for employees affected by the layoffs.
