Amazon Targets Mass Hiring with Agentic Software
Amazon unveiled new software designed to streamline its hiring process for the holiday season, aiming to eliminate a significant portion of the human component: in-person job interviews, as they recruit hundreds of thousands of employees annually.
The Seattle-based company also presented its new in-house AI design approach termed "humorphism," which Amazon stated assists AI and "aligns with human workflows, rather than requiring humans to adjust."
The firm revealed its software solutions during an event featuring Amazon Web Services CEO Matt Garman and executives from OpenAI in attendance.
In February, Amazon announced plans to invest as much as $50 billion in OpenAI, while Microsoft stated on Monday that it would forfeit exclusive access to certain OpenAI technologies, allowing the ChatGPT developer to market its products to additional customers.

A key aspect of the event is autonomous AI software, referred to as "agents," which can execute tasks with minimal or no human involvement. The expectation is that these agents will be able to plan, make decisions, and operate independently, a rapidly expanding area that has raised worries regarding safety and regulation.

Amazon's new software for mass hiring, named Connect Talent, will assist companies in locating, evaluating, and recruiting employees required for extensive hiring, like retailers during the busy holiday shopping season.
Connect Talent utilizes artificial intelligence to carry out AI-driven interviews continuously and generate notes for recruiters, completely eliminating the need for human involvement. Amazon employed approximately 250,000 temporary workers last year in preparation for the holiday season.

Colleen Aubrey, the senior vice president of applied AI solutions at AWS, stated that job applicants would be aware they are being evaluated with AI and recognized that the technology was still being improved to resemble human interaction more effectively.
