Anthropic Rolls Out Advanced Claude AI Tools for Lawyers

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence firm, launched an enhanced set of features for attorneys utilizing its Claude AI assistant, comprising tools for niche legal subjects and access to additional legal research and AI resources within Claude.

Anthropic, located in San Francisco, stated that the launch enables law firms and various Claude users to securely integrate with external platforms like Thomson Reuters for services such as legal research and document management. It stated that the new features would be accessible to current Claude users.

The announcement arrives during increasing rivalry among tech companies to create and sell professional AI tools, as data-driven industries like the legal field hurry to implement AI technologies.

The latest release from Anthropic expands on plug-ins for Claude Cowork that the firm revealed in late January, triggering a significant selloff among investors in US and European data analytics, professional services, and software firms.

Anthropic announced that Thomson Reuters clients would now be able to access Thomson Reuters' Westlaw Primary Law database of court records and various documents, as well as its Practical Law legal practice guides within Claude.

Anthropic announced that a new collaboration with AI startup Harvey will integrate that firm's legal assistant into Claude, which will also aid with general legal questions

According to reports, the integration of its Westlaw-enabled AI platform CoCounsel with Claude, stating that this linkage will enable its customers utilizing Claude to directly access CoCounsel's "fiduciary grade" legal research tools.

"Thomson Reuters Chief Technology Officer Joel Hron stated, 'We are currently developing integrations that link general-purpose AI to professional settings, guaranteeing that the complete capabilities of CoCounsel Legal are accessible to lawyers in any workplace.'"

Hron mentioned that the integration "does not substitute the CoCounsel Legal platform nor offer independent access to the underlying content and workflow system."
