Apple is alleged to have hired Meta's augmented reality communications lead as speculations regarding the company's upcoming AR headset continue to spread. Apple hired Andrea Schubert, Meta's communications and public relations head, for its augmented reality efforts.

Through holographic displays embedded into the lens, Apple's AR headset may display text, emails, maps, games, and other information. Mark Gurman stated last year that the company had two augmented reality plans, one for AR glasses and the other for a more powerful AR/VR headgear.

According to the latest rumors, the device will be aimed at advanced users and would include two 8K panels that will display ultra-high definition photos. Apple's AR/VR headset, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, will be equipped with powerful 3D sensors capable of detecting items in a scene as well as identifying motions performed by the user's hands.

While he first claimed that ‘Apple Glasses’ would be significantly reliant on the iPhone, the expert now claims that the device will include a sophisticated chip that will allow it to function without a phone nearby. According to another estimate from Kuo, the headset will weigh around 350 kilos.

While numerous reports predicted that Apple would unveil its AR/VR headset in 2020, it now appears that the company is planning to unveil the device in 2022.

Apple's headset is currently expected to hit shops in late 2022, according to the most likely scenario. Of course, things could change before Apple formally reveals the new gadget, but the fact that Apple has hired Meta's PR implies that the firm is serious about its AR headset.

Apple has been rumored to be working on a new augmented reality headset for years, but it's unclear when the corporation will unveil it.

The earliest reports concerning Apple's headset surfaced in 2017, when the company said it would debut in 2020. According to the rumors back then, Apple was internally developing a new headset with a system-in-package identical to the Apple Watch Series 1 chip, which would run a new ‘rOS’ operating system based on iOS and would be similar to the Apple Watch Series 1 chip.

Later, it was reported that Apple was working on AR glasses with 3D cameras that would operate with the iPhone. With iOS 11, Apple released the ARKit API, which boosted augmented reality technology for iOS apps even more.

Apple started talking to firms that make components for AR and VR devices in early 2018, including EMagin, which makes OLED display components for this type of headset. Apple is expected to begin mass production of its first augmented reality product between 2019 and 2020, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, but he cautioned that plans could alter due to design revisions and supply restrictions.

The Information published some sketches of Apple's mixed reality headset in February 2021, based on information received from sources familiar with the development. The headset appears to incorporate design aspects from both the AirPods Max and the Apple Watch, as well as a large curved display on the front.

According to the newest rumors, the device will be aimed at advanced users and would include two 8K panels that will display ultra-high definition photos.
