Booking for Ola's Electric Scooter Begins
The much awaited Ola electric scooter's booking has finally commenced and customers can start reserving it at a refundable deposit of Rs.499. Those who place a reservation will receive priority delivery, according to the firm. The vehicle's specific launch date has yet to be confirmed.
The Ola Scooter is available for reservation through the Ola Electric webpage. However, the actual price has yet to be revealed by the firm.
The firm said earlier this week that it had struck a $100 million, 10-year debt financing agreement with Bank of Baroda to support the first phase of its electric two-wheeler vehicle factory in Tamil Nadu. According to the ride-hailing operator, the transaction is the largest long-term debt financing agreement in the Indian electric vehicle market.
In December 2018, Ola began its journey to create electric scooters in India by investing $100 million (Rs. 745.50 crores) in local startup Vogo. In 2019, Ola Electric, the cab aggregator's electric vehicle (EV) initiative, was spun off and launched in Bengaluru. Last year, the EV business announced a Rs.2,400 crore investment in its electric scooter manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. The firm, which touts itself as the world's largest e-scooter factory, now claims to be able to make electric scooters every two seconds.
Chairman and Group CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal tweeted that, “India’s EV revolution begins today! Bookings now open for the Ola Scooter! India has the potential to become the world leader in EVs and we’re proud to lead this charge! #JoinTheRevolution at olaelectric.com @olaelectric”
The mega plant's integrated manufacturing operations will cover the whole value chain of the electric vehicle manufacturing process. All production facilities will be housed in the mega-block, which spans 43 acres and covers two million square feet.
The Ola mega factory will be AI-powered, with Ola's unique AI engine and tech stack fully integrated into every stage of the manufacturing process, constantly self-learning and upgrading every component of the manufacturing process. It will be built on Industry 4.0 principles.
According to the firm, this will provide excellent control, automation, and quality across the entire operation, particularly with the implementation of cyber-physical and advanced IoE technology. To make the most of available space and capacity, Ola is updating its industrial layout with Siemens' Digital Enterprise software.
