CCI and MeitY Conduct Meeting Regarding the Digital Personal Data Protection Act

The Competition Commission Chairperson and its members outlined their discussions with MeitY officials regarding the Digital Personal Data Protection Act and issues concerning digital markets and competition.

The gathering takes place amidst ongoing disagreements between the competition regulator and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) regarding specific matters concerning the long-awaited Digital Competition Law.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) stated that the meeting highlighted the necessity of a consultative regulatory strategy between the regulator and MeitY to maintain alignment between data governance and competition principles given the rise of new technological trends.

The meeting included CCI Chairperson Ravneet Kaur, the regulator's members and officers, MeitY Secretary S Krishnan, and its officials.

They discussed matters concerning the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), as well as issues like interactions with competition law.

The discussions emphasized the mutual dedication of the CCI and MeitY to fostering a transparent, competitive, and innovation-friendly digital environment, while protecting the interests of both consumers and businesses.
