Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister announced that the centre will propose a policy or new law regarding online gaming after considering its impact on the society.

The Union Minister, who is responsible for the Railways, Communication and Information Technology line, called our other individuals, particularly the Information Technology Ministers of all States, flagging concerns about the effects of online gaming.

Vaishnaw recalled that due to all political parties, including the BJP, Congress, and regional parties, had reached consensus on the issue, the Center has started a process of consultation with interested parties.

According to the Union Minister, most states have raised their voice about the impacts of online gaming on society, especially when people are getting addicted to it, while expressing bizarre behavioural traits beyond social norms. People are worried that it will eventually disrupt the peace in society.

Therefore, the Union Minister assures that the Center is seriously consulting with all stakeholders to prepare a proper policy soon, supposedly involving a new law or regulation if the situation requires.

The Minister's comment came in response to a query about attempts by various state governments to introduce a good law to deal with the online gaming industry, but how these efforts had been failing in legal proceedings due to legal deficiencies.

Former Karnataka Law Minister S Suresh Kumar had written to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman last week pleading with her to forbid the promotion of online video games to entice people via phone calls and SMSes.

Therefore, the Union Minister assures that the Center is seriously consulting with all stakeholders to prepare a proper policy soon, supposedly involving a new law or regulation if the situation requires.

Additionally, he announced that the Center is in thoughts of introducing a Data Bill, as well as, a Digital India Bill, informing that the former has already received good responses and is believed to become a template for the world. Currently the data bill is being drafted, assures the Union Minister.
