Flipkart Welcomes E-Commerce Players into its Internal Logistics Arm

Flipkart, the e-commerce major has now opened its internal logistics arm, Ekart, to other e-commerce players.

As it doubles down on leveraging its internal logistics infrastructure to fulfil non-Flipkart orders, Ekart has gained roughly 30 new clients and is looking to add more.

Last week, Flipkart, on the other hand, was in the early stages of developing its own non-fungible token (NFT)-related business. For NFTs, Flipkart is focusing on the 'localisation' component. Given the poor sales of NFTs in India, the e-commerce giant is expected to focus more on raising awareness, delivering utility-driven NFTs, and possibly tying them to actual products.

While the company is still working on it, this could be the first time a domestic etailer hosts NFTs. The NFT initiative is expected to be finished by BigBillionDays, the company's annual Diwali sale, according to reports.

Ekart may be able to deliver orders for firms like Nykaa, FirstCry, and others in the future

Different products and brands will approach NFT monetization in different ways, and infrastructure solutions for brands may be included.

While plans may change, Flipkart is currently considering launching NFT-related products during its big sale event later this year.

Flipkart attempted to open up Ekart to external platforms on a small scale before the Walmart merger in 2018, but the experiment was never expanded since the company was still figuring out how to best service its own order volumes.

From January onwards, it gradually opened up, and it now has about 30 companies, including Snapdeal and others. Ekart has also held conversations with various e-commerce platforms to fulfil their shipments, according to third-party logistics providers.

Most orders are fulfilled by Flipkart and Amazon India's in-house logistics services, Ekart and Amazon Transport Services, respectively, but some, such as Meesho and direct-to-consumer brands, employ third-party companies such as Delhivery, Ecom Express, and Xpressbees.

Despite the fact that Ekart has extended its doors to external clients, it is unlikely to conduct business with Amazon India or Meesho, as they are direct competitors.

Ekart may be able to deliver orders for firms like Nykaa, FirstCry, and others in the future.
