GalaxEye Secures US Patent for OptoSAR Technology
Indian space technology startup GalaxEye has secured a US patent for the core technology behind its OptoSAR imaging system, strengthening its intellectual property portfolio as it prepares to expand into global Earth observation markets.
The company said it is the first Indian startup to receive a US patent for satellite imaging technology. The patent covers the design used to align and synchronize optical and microwave sensors, enabling simultaneous and spatially and temporally coordinated data collection. The core technology has also been patented in India.
“This is more than just a patent for us. This is a creation that originated in India,” said Suyash Singh, Co-founder and CEO, GalaxEye. He added that the company is developing globally oriented technology entirely in India rather than importing or modifying existing solutions.
GalaxEye’s OptoSAR platform combines optical imaging, which provides visual and spectral information, with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which can capture imagery during both day and night and under challenging weather conditions. The company sees applications for the technology across defence and strategic intelligence, agriculture, insurance and disaster management.

GalaxEye plans to develop a constellation of 30 satellites over five years, with the broader objective of providing more continuous Earth observation. Singh said the company plans to launch two satellites over the next 24 months before accelerating the wider constellation rollout in line with technological and market developments.

According to Singh, Mission Drishti has helped validate GalaxEye’s systems in orbit and evaluate their performance under real operating conditions. The mission is expected to support the company’s efforts to expand its imaging and intelligence capabilities for a wider range of customers.
