Google to Pay $ 6 Million to News Corp for New AI Content
Alphabet-owned Google has agreed to pay News Corp, owner of the Wall Street Journal, between $5 million and $6 million annually to develop new AI-related content and products, according to reports.
Citing a News Corp employee and another person close to the deal, the story stated that the new arrangement is a part of a long-standing cooperation between Google and News Corp.
Although they do have several business agreements with Google, the company does not currently have a licensing agreement for AI content, as per the reports.
According to reports, Google will continue to fund News Corp. with $5 million to $6 million annually to create this kind of content, continuing their current partnership.
AI companies are searching for new organizations to collaborate with in order to license content, and they have been looking for content to train their chatbots.
The New York Times and Alden Global Capital have also filed lawsuits against Microsoft and OpenAI, claiming in separate counts that the two tech giants improperly utilized the material of newspaper publishers to train AI models.
The company promised to establish a studio where local news outlets could test the technology and to give OpenAI credits to the NGO and its affiliated organizations
In July 2023, OpenAI and Associated Press came to an arrangement whereby AP will use the technology and product skills of the AI startup, while OpenAI will license a portion of the newswire's archive.
OpenAI claimed that it has given the American Journalism Project $5 million to use AI to promote local reporting. The company promised to establish a studio where local news outlets could test the technology and to give OpenAI credits to the NGO and its affiliated organizations.
