
Hitachi Energy to invest Rs 2,000 Crore in Chennai

Hitachi Energy Technology Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Energy Ltd based in Switzerland, revealed new investments of Rs.2,000 crore in Chennai on Wednesday as part of the growth of its Global Technology and Innovation Center.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin convened with the company's senior management to conclude plans for the upcoming phase of expansion in the state.
"A suggested investment of as much as Rs.2,000 crore is expected to generate approximately 3,000 new jobs — all of which will be high-value, well-paying, and technologically advanced positions," stated state Industries Minister T R B Rajaa.
Hitachi Energy’s current Global Technology and Innovation Centre covers 300,000 sq ft, which includes 50,000 sq ft of specialized laboratory area. It accommodates more than 2,500 technologists focused on energy transition, with post-doctorate, doctorate, and postgraduate degrees specializing in grid automation, transformers, high-voltage systems, and grid integration.
Created as an independent infrastructure, the center facilitates comprehensive business models addressing various sectors. The Chennai centre is already Hitachi Energy’s largest worldwide hub, employing approximately 3,000 engineers who are managing over 1,000 projects in 46 countries.
“In only two years, they are already growing, showcasing the abundance of talent in Tamil Nadu,” Rajaa stated.

He mentioned that with Tamil Nadu contributing over 15 percent of doctorates and 11 percent of postgraduates in India, the state is emerging as a center for innovation and research and development.

The organization stated that the center’s knowledge supports projects for Hitachi Energy affiliates globally, enhancing its position as a key international center for innovation and technological advancement
The center unifies Hitachi Energy’s varied engineering and R&D expertise in a single location. It conducts more than 1,000 projects annually in 40 nations, encompassing skills like engineering, project management, bidding, supply chain management, customer support, marketing, cyber security, commissioning, system analysis, and remote services.
