Koo, a multilingual social media platform, inked an MoU with the Telangana government to establish a development center.

As an IT hub with access to a strong technological ecosystem and a big pool of IT talent, Hyderabad, Koo expects its presence in the area to expand significantly.

Under the MoU, Koo will collaborate with the Telangana government to use Telugu to reach more state residents who do not speak English.

Along with promoting the distinct culture of Telangana, the partnership would help advance the rich history and heritage of Telugu as a language.

In the words of Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao, "By collaborating with Koo, we are hopeful that our efforts to connect and engage with citizens for disseminating information and services of Telangana government will be augmented further."

“We are truly honoured and privileged to collaborate with the Government of Telangana to further our cause of empowering voices with digital freedom of expression. The development centre in Hyderabad will be a key enabler in this mission”, adds Radhakrishna

The development centre will make use of local expertise and encourage collaboration with state stakeholders.

We consider it a great honour and privilege to work with the Telangana administration to advance our goal of giving people more digital freedom of expression, adds Rao.

Aprameya Radhakrishna, co-founder and CEO, Koo, said, "Language-based social media is the need of the hour, especially in a multilingual country like India.

“We are truly honoured and privileged to collaborate with the Government of Telangana to further our cause of empowering voices with digital freedom of expression. The development centre in Hyderabad will be a key enabler in this mission”, adds Radhakrishna.

Koo debuted in March, 2020. The goal was to make it possible for individuals to communicate online in their native tongue. It is currently accessible in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Bengali, and English, among other ten languages. Over 40 million people have downloaded the app.

The platform's unique functionality allows for real-time translation of a post into a variety of languages while maintaining the tone and context of the original content.
