L&T Names Amitabh Kant as Independent Director
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has declared that Amitabh Kant, the previous G20 Sherpa and CEO of NITI Aayog, will join its board as a non-executive, independent director.
The appointment, starting October 29, 2025, will last for a five-year period, pending shareholder approval.
The resolution was formalized during the board meeting that took place on Wednesday. In its filing with the exchange, L&T highlighted that Kant's expertise in governance, public policy, and economic development will provide valuable perspectives for the company's strategic growth, particularly as it ventures into global infrastructure and sustainability-focused initiatives.
Kant retired from the IAS after a 45-year public service career, having been part of the 1980 Kerala batch and held various leadership positions. He is best known for heading large national initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, and Incredible India. In 2022, he was designated as India’s G20 Sherpa and was instrumental in guiding the nation’s agenda throughout its presidency.
