Meta Unveils Muse AI Agent that can Send Emails and Make Payments
Meta launched a highly anticipated AI assistant capable of independently sending emails, selling a car, and booking travel for individuals, even though there are internal worries about its handling of sensitive personal information.
The Muse agent, referred to internally as Hatch, is the core element of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's strategy to deliver "personal superintelligence" to the billions of users engaging with Meta's services each day.
This strategy is part of the latest effort by the owner of Facebook and Instagram to broaden its income streams beyond advertising and establish a sustainable business from its massive investments in AI chips and other infrastructure, which it expects will surpass $130 billion this year.
The product will initially be available only in the U.S., through a dedicated Muse app or Meta's WhatsApp messaging service, according to the company's announcement.
Meta announced intentions to integrate the agent into its range of smart glasses "soon," but did not provide further details.
A free basic version of the agent will be offered, while Meta is expected to charge $20 monthly and $100 monthly for more extensive use, according to reports.

Inspired by the open-source AI agent OpenClaw, Muse is created to interact with a user's applications in various areas such as email, calendar, payments, health, shopping, and smart home, according to Meta.

Every Muse agent operates on its individual virtual machine, a cloud-based simulation of a personal computer, allowing it to continue processing requests in the background even when it is not actively being used by a person.
